Awesome Music Recording Gear That You Should Order Online For Your Music Recording Studio
Like many other dudes that are into home music recording, I am addicted to buying music gear online. I know "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" is sort of a problem because I should really be spending more of my time and energy learning to use the stuff I already have properly instead of looking for the latest gear but at the same time ordering new music gear is too much fun to stop!
In this article I'm going to share 4 of my favorite pieces of gear that I've purchased online over the years. I strongly recommend ordering these things too because they are all awesome.
Pianoteq Piano Plugin - The best virtual piano I've heard in all my days. The software is also very small so that it takes up much less space on your hard drive and in your computer's RAM The reason it is so small in comparison with traditional sampled pianos is because it is not actually a piano sampler at all, instead it's a "piano modeler." It's the fact that it is a modeler rather than a sampler that makes Pianoteq's playability so "realistic." You really have to hear this software to believe how real it sounds.
Celemony Melodyne Editor - This software takes the kind of pitch correction made famous by AutoTune to a much higher level since it lets you to "reach into" chords to move the notes around inside the chord. The easiest way I can think of to explain what using this software is like is to say it makes working with real audio a lot like working with MIDI. The possibilities for how this software can be used both for correction of mistakes and experimentation are truly endless.
Shure KSM44 Condenser Microphone - Every studio needs a good quality condenser microphone and the KSM44 will definitely get the job done if you can afford the mic. Yes it is 800 dollars when bought new but it is a sound investment. I have had mine for 6 years and I've dropped it on the floor a few times and to be honest I haven't treated it real well generally speaking, but it still sounds just like the day I bought it as far as I can tell.
Shure SM7 Dynamic Microphone - This is a really cool vocal microphone, in fact Michael Jackson's vocal tracks on the biggest selling album of all time (Thriller) were recorded with it. If it's good enough for MJ, I'm sure it's good enough for you.
Gear Drive?
Imagine two ordinary gears of different diameters meshed together, with the larger being the driver. If the larger gear has 104 teeth around its circumference and rotates at 4.80 rad/s, the smaller gear, which has only 24 teeth, will rotate at what speed?
4.80*(104/24)= 20.8 rad/s

Funny thing about video cameras: you can spend an arbitrarily large amount of
money on them, if you want. The line between the kind of equipment used
exclusively by professionals and the stuff you might find in the gear bag of a
weekend Scorsese has become so blurred that an $8,000 Canon HD camera no
longer seems completely inappropriate for an Amazon wishlist.
Well, maybe that's a trifle exaggerated; the high-end Canon, Sony and RED
Digital Cinema cameras are certainly out of reach for even the most dedicated
hobbyist. (We can dream.) Nevertheless, with prosumer & consumer cameras
converging in the $1,000+ range and Flip-style compact HD devices found for
less than $100, which ones should you focus on if your post-production process
includes editing in iMovie?
Apple's consumer editing app, part of the $49 iLife '11 suite (but available
as a $14.99 standalone buy from the Mac App Store, and shipped with every new
Mac today) has a lot more in common with the company's flagship editing tool
than it used to. Final Cut Pro X has moved closer to iMovie's editing
metaphors and control approaches, compared to Final Cut Pro 7, so that ...
