Sean Murphy, 28 from Chicago, IL is highly seasoned professional race car driver, who started at the age of 8 in go-kart racing, and has excelled in midget racing since he began in 1998. In Murphy’s impressive midget career, he has tallied 20 Feature Wins, 30 Heat Race Wins, 70 Top Five Finishes, and 100 Top Ten finishes with a family operated, and primarily self-funded racing operation. Sean was the winner of the 2005 Illinois State Champion Race in the UMARA midget series and has participated in multiple USAC and other midget series events in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida. Sean’s goal is to win the ASA Northern Late Model Series Championship for 2008. To advance to ARCA and use this experience coupled with his continually developing race engineering skills to become an exceptional driver in NASCAR. His drive, determination and applied race engineering knowledge would make Sean a highly valued asset to any racing enterprise at the professional level. In 2007 Sean Murphy made the transition from the open-wheel pavement midgets to Limited Late Model Stock Cars. His season highlights in 2007 for Limited Late Models was comprised of 2 heat wins, 5 heat top 5s, and 5 feature top 5s in 6 events running on the semi banked track of ½ mile of Illiana Motor Speedway. Sean was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois and at the age of 3, first experienced his love for racing at an Indy car race at the famous Milwaukee Mile. By age 9, he was racing competitively in junior, go-kart classes at Trane Motor Speedway in Norway, Illinois. His passion for racing extended into open-wheel midget racing at the age of 17 in the Sportsmen Midget division in the UMARA Association located near Chicago, Illinois. Sean’s racing skills and proven consistency as a top finisher allowed him to move up to a USAC compatible midget pavement series called the UMARA Midget association. Sean has been a top tier driver in this National Series since 2002 while racing against many notable USAC open-wheel drivers like Josh Wise, Jason Leffler, Aaron Fike, Mel, Ryan Newman and many others. Sean’s long time supporter is his father Gerald Murphy. In his “spare” time away from midget racing, Sean enjoys volleyball, soccer, mountain biking, working out, radio-controlled race cars, and race performance tuning for a quarter-midget racing team located near Chicago.
